World records at Apex sales
SEVERAL WORLD RECORDS IN APEX SALE 57
The Apex postal auction (No 57) which took place on the 4th March attracted the participation of almost 1200 bidders, who offered to spend almost £750,000 between them! Total realisations for the lots sold was almost £250,000, believed to be a UK record for a postal only sale. Strong bidding for the 4000 lots in the sale saw high realisations for the much classic GB and Commonwealth on offer, whilst the exceptional section of early GB booklets achieved several notable realisations, including 6 world records.
Of those, most notable were lots 600 (1924 2/- edition 2) and 601 (1924 2/- edition 1) which sold for £900 and £850 respectively, each attracting over a dozen bids, whilst lot 609, a pristine example of the 1931 "green" 5/- booklet sold for £2400 attracting no less than 4 bids in excess of the current SG catalogue value of £2100, plus a further 6 bids in the £1500-2000 range.
